About Us
EvanSTEM
EvanSTEM is a public-private partnership project housed within District 65 with the goal of creating an Evanston ecosystem of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) educators, program providers, industry leaders and professionals to increase underrepresented student success in STEM programs, courses, and ultimately careers.
The Cardboard Carnival Staff
The Cardboard Carnival is supported by staff from the Evanston Public Library, Y.O.U., and Family Focus. Meet the staff that made this challenge possible. Please contact us with any questions you have about the challenge.
Elacsha M.
Innovation and Digital Learning Interim Manager
I have always had a passion for science since I was a kid (kind of like Ada Twist the Scientist and Iggy Peck the Architect). I love conducting experiments and inventing things. I enjoy working with my hands, problem solving and not knowing what the outcome will be! Science will always be cool.
Jason O.
Library Assistant
Hey, I’m Jason and I work at the Evanston Public Library. Just trying to live it up the best I can.
Kennedy J.
STEM Experiences Library Assistant
Kennedy can be found on the first floor of EPL at Children’s creating fun maker programs for tweens. They have a passion for blending their love for science and art as a way to help build their own creative thinking and storytelling skills. Coding is just one of the many ways to tell a story and the hope is that through art, we will find many more.
Khari W.
Teen Services Library Assistant / Family Focus Assistant Instructor
Hi I’m Khari, an animator extraordinaire – well at least that’s the goal. Talk to me about anything cartoons or animation and I’m all ears! You know, I’m something of a scientist as well. I’ve been collecting and dismantling obsolete tech since I was a kid. There is something so mesmerizing about seeing what’s on the inside of your favorite old game console.
Katrina M.
Branch Assistant
Hey, I’m Katrina, a booking obsessed, filmmaker who likes nerding out over comic books and anime. I enjoy making short movies, crafting poems, and trying my hand at fun DIY projects. You can find me at the Robert Crown branch, where I’m down to chat about your favorite superhero, video game, movie, or discuss the new tv show/book you’re bingeing!
Tyler W.
Data & Technology Librarian
You can find Tyler in the Loft at the Evanston Public Library where he plans Anime Club, suggests amazing fantasy books to read, and programs robots. When he isn’t at the library, you will most likely find him eating pizza, figuring out how to program, or watching whatever TV show he is obsessed with.
Evanston Public Library, District 65, and our partners are committed to creating safe and welcoming spaces, programs, and services for all Evanston youth. Just like Evanston youth, the staff who work on the Citywide STEM challenges come from a variety of races, cultures, experiences, sexual orientation, and gender identities. By being intentional with our staffing and program structure we hope that youth see themselves reflected and feel supported when they take part.
